Our Story

United Skates of America was founded in 1971 by Norman Traeger, who saw possibility where others only saw problems. After taking his child to a friend’s birthday party at a roller rink, Norman noticed the place was dirty, poorly run, and unwelcoming—yet it was full of people having fun. He walked away with a vision: imagine how many more people would come if roller skating was offered in a space that was clean, fun, friendly, and safe.

That vision became United Skates of America. For more than 50 years, our rinks have welcomed millions of families, friends, and communities to skate, celebrate, and create unforgettable memories under the disco lights.

Just like our rinks, our apparel and accessories are designed to spread the joy and culture of roller skating into everyday life.
